American point. The blade of the American point is shaped like a quarter circle, which constantly gets sharper towards the end. That enables a very precise shave, as also “difficult spots”, such as under the nose, are easy to reach.
The blade width size is 20 mm (6⁄8 in).The width of the blade is defined as the distance between the back of the blade and the cutting edge. It is expressed in units of eighth of an inch. A narrow blade can shave tight facial spots such as under the nose, but must be rinsed more often.
The blade is made of stainless steel, which is resistant to rust but can be more difficult to hone. To avoid water spots or rust, the blade must always thoroughly dry. Blades, which have not been used for a long time, need to be treated with oil.
Bocote, also called Rio-Grande- or Mexico Rosewood, is a very decorative South American hardwood. As a rule, the tree is only available in small dimensions, as it rarely gets thicker than 40 cm. The unique beautiful wood has a yellowish brown to coffee brown body with dark brown to almost black stripes. It tends to darken to a beautiful brown tone with age, which makes the black grain even more visible. Due to its natural oil content it is perfectly suited for knife handles and can be polished easily.
