Unlike many other Barber Shops located in urban centers and European metropolises, the barber and men’s hairdresser for clients in the Rhine-Main area has its home in the idyllic Mainz neighborhood of Hechtsheim. Even during store hours with back-to-back barber appointments, there is always ample parking in front of and behind the building. Creating a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere is a matter of many loving details: countless historic shaving accessories, gentle light, cozy leather sofas and solid wood furnishings express the typical style of owner Jerome “Barber-J” Kantner without being overdone. Even as a boy, Jerome showed his passion for hair and unconventional hairstyles with a colorful mohawk. It’s not surprising that he began his career in 1985, training as a hairdresser. With several positions in the Rhine-Main area, he was able to work his way up to fulfilling his dream of his own salon, which he opened in 2007.
Jerome is an expert in his craft. When you enter the barber shop, you’ll see proof of that in many diplomas, awards and certificates. Jerome, nicknamed by friends Barber-J in his youth, won the German Championship and was able to qualify for the World Championship in Lisbon in the men’s bracket. In 2014, he won the title of Global Champion. Thanks to his recognition as the world’s best men’s hairdresser, his status as American Crew All-Star and as a member of the Hair Stylists’ Guild Rhinehessen, Jerome has made an international name for himself. He is often booked for trade shows, workshops and seminars around the world. In September, Jerome and Boker will share the stage at the Düsseldorf Barber Convention for a live presentation of a professional wet shave with the limited-edition forged straight razor Boker Barber-J.
The 6/8″ wide carbon steel blade with an extra hollow grind with a ridge has the exact weight and dimensions Jerome prefers. The serration on both sides ensures a safe grip on the blade, even when wet. The round-point blade has precisely milled indentations on the spine. Visually, they add a very special look to this limited-edition model and they offer Jerome a safe alternate grip for short strokes. As a lover of all natural materials, Barber-J simply had to choose curly birch for the handle. The light-colored, durable wood with an extraordinary pattern also sports a decorative stud. Comes with historic packaging, a certificate of authenticity and an individual serial number.
